The Digital Marketing Metrics That Actually Matter
Too many metrics, too few decisions. Knowing what to track—and why—is the first step toward improving your results.
Efficiency metrics
CTR (click-through rate) reveals whether an ad catches people's attention. CPC (cost per click) tells you how much you pay for each visit. Both help diagnose creative performance, but neither tells you if the business is actually profitable.
Outcome metrics
CPL (cost per lead) and CPA (cost per acquisition) connect your ad spend directly to inquiries and sales. ROAS (return on ad spend) divides revenue by the total amount spent.
Business metrics
Customer lifetime value indicates how much you can afford to invest to acquire a customer. Without this baseline, an apparently 'expensive' CPA might actually be highly profitable—or the other way around.
How to track them without wasting time
Identify three to five core KPIs and set up alerts for when they deviate from your target range. With MyMetrics, the Analytics agent sends email alerts and answers questions in plain language, such as 'Why did our costs increase this week?'.
